How I’m looking after myself during the processing of a late diagnosis of autism

Spending time on my special interests 🎬 🎶 📖 :
– re-watching all episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale before the final season started few weeks ago.
– listening to music & reading

Continuing to learn as much as possible about AuDHD so I can better understand myself 🧠 :
– reading as many books as I can – current reads – The Lost Girls of Autism by Gina Rippon & AuDHD Blooming Differently by Leanne Maskell
– listening to THE HIDDEN 20% 🟢 podcast – especially the episode with Kimberley Nixon
– enrolling in & starting Dr Samantha Hiew’s AuDHD in women course

Talking to my partner and helping him understand why I can’t do things that I used to = skill regression and sending him Instagram videos about perimenopause and AuDHD

Listening to my body and brain and not pushing through so much or feeling guilty in the times in my cycle I need to rest 🩷:
– taking note of times when my ADHD medication makes my chronic pain/ fatigue worse and not taking it then
– getting back in bed once the children have gone to school if I’m on a day off from work and not feeling guilty about it

Setting boundaries around social media 📱:
– no pressure to post at all or post consistently
– scroll past things that are triggering
– unfollow accounts that make me feel RSD
– only spend max 10 minutes a day on Instagram

Setting boundaries at work 💻 :
– not doing more than two home visits a day
– if doing two visits, make sure they aren’t too far away across the county
– not taking on more clients than I can cope with in my coaching work

Trying to get outside every day and do a little bit of movement even if it’s just in my own back garden 🌿🧘

Prioritising sleep and putting my phone away / leaving downstairs around 9pm 🛌

Taking care of my sensory needs – stimming, weighted blanket, loop earplugs ❤️

Making my HRT and supplements part of my daily routine and taking them consistently 🧃

Social connection in short bursts so it’s not too exhausting = peer support 💬:
– talking to people at work who are going through the same thing – patients and staff
– meeting lovely friends for a lunchtime walk or tea/coffee

And finally:
Spending time with the people that accept me for being me so I can learn to slowly unmask with others 🥰 📷 🌎
